On the occasion of the beatification of Father Olinto Marella, a documentary reportage was made for the Bolognese people “the beggar priest” on 4 October 2020 in Piazza Maggiore,
where the long-awaited ceremony took place.
This event combined with our four months stay in the village of Via dei Ciliegi in San Lazzaro, Bologna, has become the pretext to tell the soul of the place, who has remained and what has changed over
the years.

Don Olinto Marella (1882 Pellestrina, Venezia – 1969 San Lazzaro di Savena, Bologna) is known to all as “Father Marella” and as “the Father” to his children,
he made himself known in the city by begging in such a singular way that he received without ever asking, and he did so walking through the streets of the center of Bologna,
with his hat turned upside down, that at the end of the day was full of money.
Money he used to help children, adolescents, orphans, poor and needy for whom he had built a city, the city of children in San Lazzaro di Savena, Bologna. A set of houses and workshops for the beginning of work, the city of the “Father”.

This project is a work in progress that is developed in three different sections:
– The conscience and gratitude of Bologna” beatification of 4th October 2020.

– The Father’s hat is inspired by what surrounds the boys’ town and the Father’s life.

– Twenty-four houses, a look at the “city of the boys” 24 photos for 24 houses that tell a split of seventy years between those who went and those who remained.

In occasione della beatificazione di Padre Olinto Marella , per i bolognesi “il prete mendicante” è stato realizzato un reportage documentaristico sulla giornata del 4 ottobre 2020 in Piazza Maggiore, dove si è svolta la cerimonia tanto attesa.
Questo evento unito alla nostra permanenza nel villaggio di via dei ciliegi a San Lazzaro della durata di 4 mesi è diventato il pretesto per raccontare l’anima del luogo, chi è rimasto e quello che è cambiato nel corso degli anni.

Don Olinto Marella (1882 Pellestrina, 1969 San Lazzaro di Savena) è a tutti noto come «Padre Marella» e come “il Padre” per i suoi ragazzi ,si è fatto conoscere in città mendicando con un modo talmente unico da ricevere senza mai chiedere, e lo faceva camminando agli angoli delle strade del centro di Bologna, con il suo cappello rovesciato che a fine giornata era pieno di denaro. Denaro che usava per aiutare i suoi ragazzi, bambini, adolescenti, orfani, poveri e bisognosi per i quali aveva costruito una città, la città dei ragazzi a San Lazzaro di Savena (BO), un insieme di case e di laboratori per l’avviamento al lavoro, la città del ‘padre’.

Questo progetto e’ un work in progress che si sviluppa in tre sezioni differenti:
– “La coscienza e la riconoscenza di Bologna” beatificazione del 4 ottobre 2020

– Il cappello del Padre spunti da quello che circonda la città dei ragazzi e la vita del padre

– 24 Houses, uno sguardo sulla “Città dei ragazzi” 24 foto per 24 case che raccontano uno spaccato di 70 anni tra chi è andato e chi è rimasto.
